MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – In an exclusive interview with Action News 5, the loved ones of Beverly Turnage say there are still too many questions left unanswered after she died in the custody of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Saturday afternoon at the Jail East Women’s Facility.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says Turnage was found unresponsive in her cell and was transported to Baptist East, where she died Saturday afternoon.
Friends and loved ones described Turnage as an empathetic person who was always there for her family when they needed help or a shoulder to cry on.
“She was a lover of animals first and foremost, and her son. She was a wonderful mother, a wonderful friend, a very devoted aunt to all of her nieces and nephews,” said Faith Teer, a lifelong friend and family spokesperson…
