HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Health officials have issued a 60-day rabies alert for a section of southern Hillsborough County after an unvaccinated cat tested positive for the virus on September 11, 2026.
The animal was killed in the Gibsonton area near U.S. Highway 41 and Alice Avenue, according to the Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County (DOH-Hillsborough). The agency is actively monitoring wildlife in the area and warned residents and visitors that rabies is currently circulating among local wild animals.
