Alamo Drafthouse Cinema at Mercato in North Naples closed permanently on Sept. 9 after about a two-year stint following the closing of Silverspot Cinema the former movie theater tenant in the spot. Paragon Theaters, with a location on Vanderbilt Beach Road, is considering reopening the Mercato theater by December.
Collier Commissioners host their final budget hearing Thursday, Sept. 17 at 5:05 p.m. Once again, the Commission looks to whether to take the money from the Conservation Collier fund which was established by voters to tax themselves specifically for Conservation. The $3.18 billion budget may be adjusted according to whether to take $5.7 million from Conservation Collier. When Commissioners took at least $53 million from Conservation Collier in 2023, the decision was controversial, and they remained indecisive as to whether to return the money to the fund which is approved by a special tax voted upon by residents for more than 20 years.
From citrus grove to a golf course, Collier County Commission will consider a rezone of the county’s last popular citrus grove, located in East Naples near Picayune Strand State Forest. The grove has been affected financially by citrus greening and other dynamics with a desire by a family group of owners to sell the grove. Commissioners will consider a rezone to make way for a golf course in its place. The Commission hosts its next regular meeting 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Board of County Commissioners Chambers, 3rd Floor, Collier County Government Center, 3299 Tamiami Trail E., Naples, which can also be joined remotely.
