LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Showers and thunderstorms will continue to impact the Lincoln area through the rest of the week, bringing repeated chances for rain and the potential for localized flooding in areas that have already seen heavy rainfall.
A Flood Watch remains in effect until Wednesday afternoon as moisture-laden air continues to move across eastern Nebraska. The biggest concern right now is areas that have already picked up several inches of rain — those spots could see additional flooding if more heavy rain develops.
What to Expect Through Wednesday
Showers and isolated storms will remain possible through Tuesday evening, though chances are expected to diminish at least for a short while, before another round of showers and storms develops late Tuesday night into the overnight hours. Rain, possibly heavy at times, will be possible for Lincoln and much of southeastern Nebraska.
Wednesday will bring another round of showers and storms, mainly in the morning before tapering off by afternoon. Clouds will keep temperatures in the low to mid 70s. This is the second round of rain in a short period, which is why the flood threat remains elevated.
Thursday: Storms Possible But Weak
Thursday looks to be a transition day. A low-pressure system will move through, bringing scattered showers and storms as a frontal boundary pushes north across the area. The good news: these storms don’t appear to have much wind shear, so severe weather isn’t expected. The best chance for storms for the Lincoln area will likely be early Thursday morning before see drier conditions by the afternoon with sun finally making an appearance after a couple of cloudy days.
As a warm front lifts north through the area, temperatures will warm into the low to mid 80s for southern Nebraska, with temperatures in the 70s to near 80 degrees for the northern tier of the state.
Friday Night: Next Severe Weather Threat
