PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — A comedian from Pensacola is chasing his dreams after getting a big spotlight on a popular podcast last month. Shane Camp is quickly finding a new home in the Austin comedy scene.
Shane Camp recently won a golden ticket on the popular comedy podcast “Kill Tony.” It’s a show that’s a kingmaker in the comedy world and gives a big boost to comics who may not get frequent gigs. Camp says as soon as his episode dropped, he could quit his day job and focus full-time on writing and performing.
He says his first taste of comedy was performing way back in the day at Pine Meadow Elementary School–and he credits the crowds he was able to perform in front of at different small venues in Pensacola with helping him sharpen his material.
“I mean, when they’re sitting there at an open mic and they don’t laugh, I realize I got some work to do on that joke or to get rid of it all together when they laugh. I know I’m on to something,” said Camp. “And the thing about standup and performing in general, you put someone on stage in front of people long enough, they will be relaxed up there and they will be entertaining for anybody that’s the case. It’s about that stage time getting up there.”…
