C.S. Lewis once stated that “The greatest evils in our history have been the result of gradual changes.” Sometimes the death of a community can’t be attributed to one single event, but to many deeds of immorality spread over time.
One of these could be the referendum for countywide alcohol sales in May 2012. Another could be the broad acceptance of dispensary and vape stores peppered throughout our area. Perhaps another is the slow-growing brewery and nightlife culture that eerily resembles Asheville’s nightlife. Still another could be the introduction of a social district in Sylva, opening the door for public drunkenness in our streets.
The upcoming Sylva Pride festival (Sept. 18-20) is undoubtedly one of these events. Hosting this festival speaks greatly to the moral decline of Sylva and the lack of true Christian leadership among our county decision makers. The audacity to name anything at this event “family friendly” is a mockery of what true family is. Sometimes issues like this come before the county in sheep’s clothing — increased tourism, greater tax revenue, economic development, etc. — but make no mistake, this wolf comes as a wolf…
