Irondale resident calls Civic Center a ‘money pit’ as council approves another $1.1 mil

IRONDALE, Ala. (WBMA) — Irondale taxpayers will pick up more than $1.1 million in additional costs for the city’s Civic Center renovation after the City Council approved three change orders Tuesday night, prompting one resident to ask a question the city has yet to fully answer publicly: How much will the finished project ultimately cost?

The council approved $1,130,949.49 in additional work with Shelby Company LLC for utilities, kitchen renovations, upgrades and previously unforeseen conditions discovered during construction.
