Elbridge, N.Y. – To neighbors and family, Freddie Marty Jr. was a helpful and kind person who was the neighborhood handyman. He would wave to passers-by. He was a sweet guy.
That’s why his neighbors and family members said they were shocked that he got into a standoff with police after he fired a shot that hit a car with people in it several weeks ago. The more than five-hour standoff at Marty’s Elbridge home ended when the 62-year-old was fatally shot by a deputy.
“It’s hard for me to understand how this all might have went down,” said Robert Butters, 47, Marty’s stepson. “Shooting at kids? It doesn’t sound right. He loved kids. He was a huge part of my children’s lives.”…
