Maryland has secured federal recertification for continued compliance with REAL ID requirements, with 99.56% of the state’s licenses and identification cards REAL ID compliant as of September, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration.
The Transportation Security Administration’s recertification means federal agencies can continue accepting Maryland-issued REAL IDs, including at TSA airport security checkpoints. MVA reports that more than 4.9 million active REAL ID licenses and identification cards are currently in circulation statewide.
The federal recertification process reviews state policies, procedures, physical security controls and record management to ensure continued compliance with standards established by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
