An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who was charged after shooting and injuring a Venezuelan immigrant during Operation Metro Surge and then lying about the incident is was taken into custody on Wednesday in Minneapolis.
Christian Castro, 52, was taken into custody around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. He was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on five charges, including second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and falsely reporting a crime. Castro is due in court at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Castro, who has been suspended without pay by the Department of Homeland Security, was released from custody in late August after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott refused to sign an extradition warrant to Minnesota and a federal judge in Texas denied Minnesota’s extradition request.
