This vacant space used to house a restaurant. Broker says it easily could again.

For a five-year stretch, Wichita’s Delano district had its own Planet Sub restaurant, which was recognizable for the cheerful yellow interior accents visible to after-dark passersby.

That Planet Sub, which was at 535 W. Douglas, closed in 2021, a victim of pandemic slowdowns. And Wichita’s last remaining Planet Sub, at Central and Maize, closed in May 2024.

But recently, the running store that took over the Planet Sub space in Delano vacated the building, which still has everything a restaurant owner would need to get up and running — including an already-installed grease trap. Plus, all those bright yellow accents are still there: Inside, it looks like Planet Sub just departed last week.

And as a bonus, said the building’s leasing agent, the location is an even more desirable spot for a restaurant now that Equity Bank Park is operating directly behind it.

“Somebody could definitely turn it back into a restaurant,” said Chad Stafford, whose Occidental Management is looking for a tenant for the space. “It’s got all the stuff you need in there.”…
