Pigs and goats and cows — oh my!
Two-legged visitors aren’t the only ones hanging out at the Washington State Fair. Every year, several local farms bring their livestock to the fair grounds for exhibits that mix education with entertainment, giving guests the chance to see farm animals up close and even interact with them.
Piglet Palace is an annual favorite. Current owner Kenny Young has been bringing pigs to the fair for decades, continuing a family tradition that now spans four generations. His father started the family’s involvement in the 1960s, and Young has attended the fair nearly every year of his life, first working in the barns as a 10th grader.
Many of his pigs are sold to the University of Washington’s 4-H Youth Development Program and FFA students, creating a connection between the barn and the next generation of agriculturalists…
