LEXINGTON, Ky. — Friday is National Cheeseburger Day, and while plenty of national chains are rolling out discounts and promotions, Kentuckians have another way to celebrate: Order a burger from a locally owned restaurant.
Observed each year on Sept. 18, National Cheeseburger Day celebrates one of America’s most recognizable foods. This year, the occasion falls on a Friday, making it an especially good excuse to turn lunch or dinner into an opportunity to support Kentucky’s restaurants.
The cheeseburger’s history even has a Kentucky connection. Louisville’s former Kaelin’s Restaurant claimed to have invented the cheeseburger in 1934, although several restaurants around the country have made competing claims about who first put cheese on a hamburger.
