Van Orden, Johnson take different paths in opposition to SW Wisconsin power lines

Area lawmakers are taking different approaches to address growing community concern over two massive 765-kilovolt transmission lines proposed through Southwest Wisconsin.

The effort comes from both the state and federal levels, where Assembly Rep. Tara Johnson held a 25-minute news conference Wednesday in Madison on the matter, while U.S. House Rep. Derrick Van Orden issued a formal statement Thursday and signed onto a joint letter to the governor.

In that letter to Gov. Tony Evers — co-signed by Republican state Sen. Howard Marklein and GOP state Reps. Travis Tranel and Tony Kurtz — the Republicans called for an immediate moratorium on the BECI and MariBell lines…
