Hot and humid conditions are the name of nature’s game through the end of the workweek. Highs in the 90s will be quite common ahead of the next cold front that comes into the area for the weekend.
Temperatures will take a detour to the milder side once the slow-moving front finally pushes through, bringing high temperatures down on Sunday through next week. Highs will shuffle back to the 70s and 80s! We just have to get through a few more days before sweet heat relief.
There is a chance for a few batches of storms to the northwest this evening. Anything strong looks to be on the Nebraska side.
For Friday as the cold front approaches, isolated storms will be possible over Western Kansas. There will be an uptick in development toward the end of our Friday Football Fever games in that part of our viewing area. Damaging winds, larger hail and lightning are all hazards to consider as one or two could become severe.
The front keeps moving to the southeast on Saturday. There is a bigger area under a risk for severe weather. Damaging 60-80 MPH winds and localized flooding are top of mind for storms ahead of the cold front Saturday evening. This includes the Wichita Metro.
Storms will move slowly and have plenty of juice to produce higher rainfall amounts. Widely scattered storms will embark on Kansas Saturday night with showers leftover on Sunday. Clouds and a northeast wind will bring temperatures down and make it feel more like fall to end the weekend.
The axis for rain shifts south and west on Monday and Tuesday, making a return to our neck of the woods the middle of next week. Wednesday looks like a favored day to pick up more scattered yet beneficial rain.
