From Australia to Wichita: Former LPGA star caddies for ex-Shocker at Heritage Classic

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Three former Wichita State golfers participated in the Heritage Classic last week, and one of those Shockers had a special guest caddying for her.

Mackenzie Wilson grew up in Australia and moved to the U.S. to play college golf in the Air Capital. While with the Shockers, Wilson met fellow Aussie Katherine Kirk, who spent nearly two decades on the LPGA Tour. The two teamed up at Rolling Hills.

“She has so much knowledge and wisdom, and she can keep me at a level emotion the whole time,” Wilson said. “Anything she says I listen to. So, yeah, it’s awesome. And having a fellow Aussie is amazing. We can talk about things that I couldn’t talk about with other people.”

That Australian connection is what helped make the two a perfect pair.

“Just wanted to reach out and make sure she kind of had maybe a fellow countryman to bounce ideas off and get some support from,” Kirk said. “I played college golf too and knew what it was like to be halfway around the world. She’s got great game, so it was nice.”…
