EAST LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – The Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office has declined to authorize felony charges following an investigation into an East Lansing police arrest outside a downtown bar that sparked community outrage, authorities announced Friday.
The matter has been returned to the East Lansing City Attorney’s Office for further review and potential misdemeanor charges, according to a statement released by East Lansing Police Chief Jennifer Brown.
The case stems from an early morning arrest on Aug. 2 outside Harper’s Restaurant and Brewpub on Albert Street. A bystander video circulated widely on social media showing an officer striking a 20-year-old Black woman multiple times while she was handcuffed and face down on the ground.
