(FOX40.COM) — An excavation worker in Stanislaus County was killed in a trench collapse Friday morning, the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District announced.
According to officials, SCFPD and the Modesto Fire Department were dispatched to a rescue at a worksite near Hickman Road and Lake Road in the Hickman area at approximately 10:24 a.m.
Firefighters found that a large trench had collapsed while the crew was working, and one worker was trapped underground. After several hours of rescue personnel working to remove the victim from the trench, the body was recovered, determined to be dead.
Initial reports said that a member of an excavation crew was trapped below ground level. A technical rescue response was requested while emergency personnel were en route, and additional resources were sent to the scene, including a Turlock Fire department crew…
