Bowie Woman Pleads Guilty In $14 Million D.C. Medicaid Fraud Scheme

WASHINGTON — A registered nurse from Bowie pleaded guilty Thursday in connection with a $14 million health care fraud scheme that billed D.C. Medicaid for mental health services that were never provided or were significantly inflated.

Vera Nyiawung, 34, pleaded guilty Sept. 17, 2026, in U.S. District Court to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud.
