The University at Buffalo has added eight 40-foot electric transit buses to its UB Stampede fleet. The battery-electric buses are now transporting students, staff and campus visitors. UB worked with transportation provider WeDriveU and fleet electrification specialist Zenobē on the deployment.
The buses are the first in the Stampede fleet to transition from diesel. The full fleet serves approximately 16,000 passengers each day. UB plans to continue the transition under its 10 in 10 roadmap for a zero-emissions campus by 2030.
“Our goal is to provide safe, reliable transportation while continuing to reduce our environmental impact,” said Christopher Austin, UB director of parking and transportation. “These buses help us do both. They improve the rider experience today and represent another investment in the future of mobility at UB.”
Electric Transit Buses Target Emissions Reduction
UB expects the Stampede fleet transition to avoid 5,984 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. That represents a 55.6% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared with diesel-powered service. UB said the reduction is equivalent to removing approximately 1,395 cars from the road…
