Bodycam captures dramatic rescue as lightning strikes Florida couple on trail; ‘She was Blue,’ good Samaritan says

A couple was struck by lightning while they were out for a walk on September 2, and bystanders immediately jumped in to help by performing CPR before calling 911. The couple was on the West Orange Trail in Winter Garden, west of Orlando.

Aaron and Clare Walenga suffered injuries and remained unconscious but are now on the path to a full recovery. They thanked the four Good Samaritans, first responders, and medical professionals for helping save their lives.

The Florida couple, both of whom work at Foundation Academy in Winter Garden, where their three children attend school, were struck by lightning around 7:20 p.m. The witnesses initially thought the strike had hit a fence.

In bodycam footage, a man described the condition in which he found the Walengas. “I heard the lightning crack. I saw a spark, which I thought was the fence, and I saw two bodies on the ground after that… and I came up… and he was responsive, and she was not,” he said…
