Amendment 3 to reduce local property taxes, in reality, is a Trojan horse. It looks inviting on the outside as it will reduce homestead property taxes, but on the inside, it poses a threat to the quality of local services and our quality of life here in The Villages.
In my opinion, it is not worth the risk.
Our local property taxes provide money to fund police and fire protection and EMT services, along with money to build and maintain our streets and roads, to provide water and sanitation services and to fund our local libraries. These are a few of the services that could be compromised should Amendment 3 be approved because the state has not put in place a plan to replace the lost property tax revenue. And there is no guarantee local government can create other sources of revenue to replace the reduced property taxes…
