Dry weather is expected through this evening, but with the caveat of having plenty of clouds around. Due to a mostly cloudy sky, overnight lows should stay in the 60s from the Allegany Front region to the Chesapeake Bay.
Sunday morning, expect some scattered showers to move into western Maryland and track across the area, with another round of showers mid to late afternoon, along with a few thunderstorms, south and west of D.C. The wet weather can be attributed to both a warm front approaching from West Virginia and a disturbance in the atmosphere. Showers will continue into the evening before dissipating late Sunday night, as a cold front passes through and off the Mid-Atlantic coast. With some sunshine Sunday, and a southwest wind direction, daytime highs will be in the mid- to upper 80s around the Beltway and elsewhere in the DMV, as the humidity makes a return.
As we head into the new work week, off-and-on showers will be fairly persistent through Tuesday, particularly along and west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and with the winds coming out of the north and east, expect a noticeable cooling trend beginning Monday.
Wednesday and Thursday, more rain is in the forecast as multiple disturbances and a storm just off our coast bring us that unsettled weather. High temperatures continue to stay below average for mid to late September, as they hold in the 60s in most places, along with 50s in the mountains. The other aspect of this upcoming week’s weather is the fact that most days will also be breezy, especially Wednesday and Thursday, with wind gusts between 20- 30 mph.
By week’s end and heading into the first weekend of fall (which arrives Tuesday @ 8: 04 pm EST), drier air moves in, leading to an end to the rain and hello to seeing more sunshine.
