DES MOINES, Iowa — Blank Park Zoo officials say Deuce, a 15-year-old African lion, underwent surgery this week.
In a post, the Blank Park Zoo said medical crews were attempting to remove the mass on Deuce’s adrenal gland. Officials have been monitoring the mass for some time, which includes a recent CT scan.
Blank Park Zoo officials said the team consulted with veterinary experts nationwide, including specialists at Iowa State University and the University of Florida, before deciding to proceed with the operation.
