Gilbert moves ahead on flagship parks’ next phase

Gilbert Town Council pulled the trigger to bring more recreational activities – such as a splash pad, multipurpose sports fields and a softball complex – to Gilbert Regional and Desert Sky parks.

Council members in a split vote approved $43.5 million for the second phase of Desert Sky and $55.7 million for the second phase of the regional park, both in southeast Gilbert. Councilmen Jim Torgeson and Monte Lyons opposed the spending.

“I am surprised with this vote,” Mayor Scott Anderson commented last week. “We went through a process of three years working with the public, working with staff, giving direction several times and I am surprised that we’re not unanimously supporting this.”…
