Several familiar faces from The View’s rich history are set to return for the show’s 30th season, stepping in during Whoopi Goldberg’s brief hiatus.
Executive Producer Brian Teta revealed on the show’s Behind The Table podcast that fans will see former panelists Sherri Shepherd, Lisa Ling, Star Jones, and Debbie Matenopoulos grace the Hot Topics table once again. Notably, Jones and Matenopoulos were part of the original 1997 lineup when Barbara Walters launched the program.
Debbie Matenopoulos left the show in 1999, while Star Jones departed in 2006. Lisa Ling co-hosted from 1999 to 2002, and Sherri Shepherd was a panelist between 2007 and 2014. Shepherd went on to host her own talk show, Sherri, which aired from 2022 to 2026.
Teta explained that Whoopi Goldberg, who has been hosting since 2007, will be taking a short break to film a Netflix movie titled Women Like Us. The project is produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, adding excitement to Goldberg’s already impressive career. A celebrated actress since the 1980s with roles in The Color Purple, Ghost, and Sister Act, Goldberg is also one of the few EGOT winners and earned an Emmy in 2009 for Outstanding Talk Show Host on The View.
During the next two weeks, viewers can catch the returning panelists on various days: Jones and Ling will each appear twice, while Matenopoulos and Shepherd will join for one episode apiece. Joy Behar, another original 1997 panelist, will continue as moderator.
