A 78-year-old man has been released after spending 16 days in jail following a drunk driving arrest in The Villages.
John Roger Tingley, who lives at Recreation Plantation in Lady Lake, was released earlier this month after pleading no contest to a charge of driving under the influence in Sumter County Court. In addition to time spent behind bars, he will lose his driver’s license for 60 months.
He was driving a black Hyundai SUV at about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 16 when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy spotted the vehicle drifting between lanes and crossing the double yellow line. The deputy initiated a traffic stop near the entrance to Lake Sumter Landing on Morse Boulevard.
When the deputy approached the SUV, Tingley exhibited glassy, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and the odor of alcohol on his breath, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
