A man accused of assaulting three strangers with a knife during a rampage in Old Town last year, while on pretrial release for punching a paramedic, has been given a six-year sentence. But with Illinois’ automatic 50% credit for good behavior, the six-year sentence amounts to about three years, and Stampley is also entitled to credit for time already spent in custody, including time on an ankle monitor. He is expected to be released in March 2028.
The bigger story, though, is all too familiar to CWB Chicago readers: the weeks and months before the attacks, when Stampley saw repeated arrests, repeated violations, repeated warnings, and repeated releases by judges who kept putting him back on the street.
A review of Chicago Police Department reports and court records revealed that Stampley, who was usually arrested under the names Raeshaun or Rashaun Stampley rather than Tyshaun, cycled in and out of custody before the Old Town attacks. He missed court dates, picked up new arrests, and repeatedly violated conditions of pretrial release, court records show.
