Dallas County Community Health Educator Discusses Importance of Creating an Emergency Plan

September is National Preparedness Month and a Dallas County health expert shares ways residents can take action.

Community Health Educator Natalie Del Vecchio details that it’s important to create a plan with family members so everyone is on the same page in case an emergency happens.

“So if you’re creating an emergency plan, you can start by having a meeting and discussing the types of emergencies that could happen to you like tornadoes, flooding or fires. And then creating an escape plan by drawing a map of your house and marking two ways out of every room. It’s also a good idea to include a safe meeting place outside of your home that everyone can remember. And then finally set up a communication plan, including a list of important phone numbers, and maybe an out of town contact that everyone knows to check-in with in case of an emergency.”…
