U.S. Attorney’s Office looks to revoke citizenship for Charlotte men over fraud

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The United States Attorney’s Office is seeking to revoke U.S. citizenship for three men accused of committing naturalization fraud, and a fourth is facing the same charge while serving time for child sex crimes, according to Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

Crimes against children reportedly hidden on application

A federal grand jury in Charlotte has criminally indicted 42-year-old Sha Bahadur Ghaley for naturalization fraud. He is a naturalized citizen from Bhutan.

The indictment alleges that between 2010 and 2014, Ghaley committed sexual crimes against a child in Charlotte. As a result, he later pleaded guilty in 2024 to three counts of Taking Indecent Liberties with a Child.
