LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Voices of Hope, which helps victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, child abuse and others in crisis, said it needs the community’s support right now to make up losses from federal cuts in their budget.
Samantha Plenty Chief, the nonprofit’s resource development coordinator, said within the last year they’ve served around 3,000 people, an increase from previous years. She said that number doesn’t include the recurring cases that come back every week, or even every day, for support.
“Within the past couple years, the tragedies that have happened because of domestic violence have increased,” Plenty Chief said. “Because we have so many more coming in, with less funding, it makes it a little bit harder to meet all of their needs.”…
