We ring in fall today, with cooler air on the way.
And if you have outdoor plans here in Boston this weekend, you might have to bring those plans indoors!
Nor’easter?
Why, you ask? Well, we’re tracking a potential nor’easter that could bring heavy rain, gusty winds and flooding to parts of eastern Massachusetts into the weekend.
An area of low pressure is expected to develop off the Mid-Atlantic coast mid to late this week. As the system churns to the north, we could see our weather gradually go downhill, potentially starting on Friday. But we’ll need to watch the storm’s track closely.
In fact, some of our forecast models are not in agreement. But the track will determine how much rain, wind, and coastal flooding we could see.
A track closer to southern New England would bring the greatest impacts. However, a track farther offshore would keep impacts at a minimum for Boston but could still create high surf, erosion, and some splash over for parts of the Cape and the Islands, along with lower rain amounts.
At this time, we believe that the developing storm will begin bringing periods rain to our area first on Friday. Some of the rain will be heavy on and off. The storm will likely continue affecting us through Sunday and depending on which model prevails, maybe into Monday. Impacts, though, will increase Saturday and Sunday as our rain chances and wind gusts pick up…
