U.S. Bank remains Greater Cincinnati’s biggest bank by local deposits, but the gap between it and hometown rival Fifth Third Bank narrowed slightly over the past year, according to newly released federal data. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s annual Summary of Deposits survey, published Tuesday, measures branch-level deposit balances at insured institutions as of June 30 each year, and this cycle’s results show Greater Cincinnati’s three largest banks all posting notable growth.

According to Local 12 News, Minneapolis-based U.S. Bank, which trades under the ticker USB, has a branch presence extending into Fort Mitchell and continues to sit atop the region’s deposit rankings. The FDIC’s broader survey framework provides the annual benchmark used to track local market movement.

The scale of U.S. Bank’s local dominance shows up clearly in county-level figures. In Hamilton County, the core of Greater Cincinnati, total bank deposits reached $159.2 billion across 33 institutions as of mid-2025, with U.S. Bank commanding a 63.3% share, according to data compiled by The Executive Recruiter Group.
