Rescue dog alerts foster of chickens crammed into U-Haul truck

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (PIX11) —  A rescue dog is being called a hero on Monday after detecting a foul odor coming from a U-Haul truck crammed with dead and dying chickens.

Tanuki, a 14-year-old Akita mix, alerted his foster, Julie Seyfield to the truck.

Seyfield alerted the NYPD and Humane Long Island, who discovered the chickens crammed into tiny transport crates inside the abandoned truck.

Officials were able to recover 80 chickens still alive, who were then transferred to Humane Long Island and the Kaporos Compassion Project…
