The U.S. Coast Guard and San Francisco Police Department rescued three people, one of whom later died, after their boat struck rocks and ran aground early Thursday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Francisco at around 6:08 a.m. Thursday received a radio report from a commercial fishing vessel that a boat was aground between Needle Rock and Lime Point Lighthouse, near the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge.
A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Golden Gate and personnel from the San Francisco Police Department responded to the scene. The Coast Guard crew rescued two people, and police rescued the third.
