Teen saved in Creve Coeur Lake rope rescue

CREVE COEUR, Mo. – A teenager was rescued Sunday afternoon after suffering a serious arm cut nearly 200 feet up a steep hillside at Creve Coeur Lake. Emergency responders executed a complex technical rope rescue that took roughly 90 minutes once crews reached the victim.

Approximately 12 units from the Monarch, Maryland Heights, and Pattonville fire protection districts responded to the 911 call to navigate the rough, wooded terrain. Before first responders arrived at the scene, a bystander used a shirt as a makeshift tourniquet to help control the teenager’s severe bleeding.

Crews spent approximately 30 minutes hiking up the terrain just to reach the victim. Ed Fassler of the Monarch Fire Protection District explained that bystander assistance and initial emergency access were key factors during the early stages of the operation…
