The city of Wichita released additional information Tuesday about what caused the city’s water treatment plant and high-pressure pump station to lose power, triggering a boil water advisory for 500,000 people last week.
The largest known factor is the city’s Sept. 15 decision to deactivate its automatic transfer switches and manually switch to backup generators during a thunderstorm, even though the Evergy electrical grid remained available.
