Most Wake County special-education students are graduating from high school, but few are considered to be proficient in math or reading.
Wake County school administrators laid out Tuesday their plan over the next three to five years to try to improve instruction for special-education students. The data shows it won’t be easy with proficiency rates in the single digits in some grade levels for special-education students.
“We’re graduating them, but are they proficient in reading?” Lisa Allred, assistant superintendent for special education services, said to the school board’s student achievement committee on Tuesday. “Honestly, that’s a concern that we have to talk about.”…
