NC By Train rolled out a free Rail & Ride pass program on Monday. Train riders going between Raleigh and Charlotte can now hop on local buses and light rail without paying extra. Seven transit systems joined right away, and an eighth will come aboard Oct. 1.
Here’s how it works: passengers punch in their trip details on the NCByTrain website, then get a Rail & Ride code sent to their email. They take that code and plug it into the mobile apps run by local transit agencies to catch buses or light-rail trains.
“Rail & Ride is about improving passenger experience and connectivity,” said Jason Orthner, director of the N.C.
