ST. LOUIS, IL (WROC) – A former bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester is on the road to sainthood.
A beatification Mass for Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen will be held Thursday in St. Louis, Illinois. Beatification is the declaration that a person is to be considered “Blessed” in the Catholic Church, following the verification of a miracle attributed to their intercession. Another verified miracle is required for canonization, the declaration of sainthood.
Sheen is widely considered the first televangelist. His broadcast career began with “The Catholic Hour” radio show in 1930. He went on to host the popular weekly TV show, “Life is Worth Living,” for which he won an Emmy in 1953…
