There are a lot of questions about the future of the City of Pittsburgh’s Reaching Out On The Streets program, or ROOTS. The program’s drop-in center along East Ohio Street on the Northside will be closing its doors Friday, Oct. 2.
The city took over the ROOTS program from Allegheny Health Network when it was in the middle of a five-year lease for the center. But now, the city has decided not to renew that lease, as they review all options.
People can get IDs or a copy of their birth certificate, and many have had mail sent there. Those resources and services will no longer be available. For military veteran Edward Hetrick, it’s discouraging news…
