MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Tropical Storm Gonzalo formed early Friday morning in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean, prompting a Tropical Storm Warning for all of the Cabo Verde Islands as it tracks toward the island chain.
Gonzalo poses no immediate threat to the Carolinas or the United States, but your First Alert Weather Team is monitoring its track across the Atlantic to keep you informed of any long-term changes.
As of 11 p.m. the National Hurricane Center placed the center of Tropical Storm Gonzalo about 190 miles southeast of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands. The system is packing maximum sustained winds near 45 mph with higher gusts and is moving north-northwest at 8 mph.
A Tropical Storm Warning is now in effect for all of the Cabo Verde Islands, meaning tropical storm conditions are expected within the warning area inside 24 hours.
