SAN DIEGO (KUSI/FOX 5) — A mountain lion near Mission Trails Regional Park was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday on State Route 67, according to a social media post from the park.
The CA Department of Fish & Wildlife confirmed with a heavy heart that the animal died as a result of being hit by the vehicle.
Park officials say they are unsure whether it is the same mountain lion seen in recent weeks peacefully roaming the regional park’s 8,000 acres of protected open space. The post also explains that mountain lions can travel long distances, so it may have been another mountain lion moving through the region.
Reports of possible mountain lion sightings at the regional park occurred in late July and again in early September.
