BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and the Department of Public Works highlighted recent road improvements in Elma on Friday.
Poloncarz said that the county invested about $1.8 million to recycle existing pavement and install new driving surfaces on Bowen Road between Buffalo Street and Rice Road.
“Cold in-place is a mix design that the county came up with where we take four inches of the existing road, we rejuvenate it, almost like a roto-tiller, and induce more oil into the system, but also some stiffeners like concrete and some other additives so the base on this road is not taken out; it stays in place and then we go over it with a hot mix,” Erie County Department of Public Works Commissioner Bill Geary said. “It works really well for rural roads.”…
