SUMMERSVILLE, WV (WVNS) — A man from New York was sentenced for a federal theft crime in the Mountain State.
According to a press release, 33-year-old Kwanique Martin, of Brooklyn, New York, was sentenced on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 to three years of federal probation and ordered to pay $14,256 in restitution for theft of public money, property, or records.

The press release stated that according to court documents, Martin reportedly traveled to a business in the Summersville area of Nicholas County from New York on March 1, 2025, and cashed a $1,400 United States Treasury check that was made out to another person.
Martin revealed as part of his guilty plea that the check was not his, that he did not have the authority to cash it, and gave a fake U.S. passport card with his photograph that matched the name on the check when he cashed it, according to the release…
