The Dallas County Emergency Management Agency is reminding residents to transition to an updated alert system.
Director AJ Seely says when the Alert Iowa system rolled out, community members signed up for a jurisdictional list. He adds that they are transitioning to Smart 911, which will allow the agency to have a more targeted, location-based emergency notification system.
“So today, if we want to send an alert to a specific community, it’s a large alert covering the entire community, whereas in the future, because we’ll have identified location points corresponding to folks, we’ll be able to actually pinpoint and just alert those that are actually affected. So, we’re doing this because we want to try to minimize any alert fatigue. If you get an alert, we want it to be actionable for you and relevant.”…
