A Tennessee woman on death row is making headlines because of an unusual request ahead of her scheduled execution.
Christa Pike, 50, is set to be executed on Sept. 30. She was sentenced to death in 1996 after being convicted in the 1995 killing of fellow Job Corps student Colleen Slemmer in Knoxville. Prosecutors said Pike and others took part in the attack, which shocked the community and became one of Tennessee’s most widely known murder cases.
In recent court filings, Pike’s attorneys argued that she fears lethal injection because of a blood disorder that they say could make the procedure more difficult and painful. Her legal team has asked for a different method of execution and has continued to seek clemency from Tennessee officials…
