KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A minor has been charged after a fake bomb threat was made at Powell Middle School, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
KCSO said deputies responded to the middle school after a minor reportedly made a threat claiming to have a bomb and then tried to rescind it. The sheriff’s office’s Juvenile Detectives and Homeland Security investigated the threat and interviewed the minor.

The minor was arrested and charged with making a false report. KCSO said there is no ongoing threat to the school and students have returned to class.
“We appreciate the quick response of our deputies and investigators, along with the cooperation of Knox County Schools, in helping bring this incident to a safe conclusion,” KCSO said.
The sheriff’s office also issued a reminder that threats involving schools are taken seriously and will be thoroughly investigated. Parents are encouraged to have conversations with their students and explain that threats involving schools are not a game.
