Christa Pike has been on death row since 1996 for the murder of Colleen Slemmer. According to a mutual friend, Pike said she wanted to kill Slemmer because she was “feeling mean that day.”
At the time of the trial, the court heard how Pike, 18, and her boyfriend Tadaryl Shipp, 17, beat Slemmer, slashed her throat, and engraved satanic symbols on her body. Pike was sentenced to death in March 1996 for the first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Her boyfriend was sentenced to life in prison, but was spared the death penalty because of his age.
At 20 years old, Pike was the youngest woman to be sentenced to death in modern times and still holds the record. No woman the same age or younger has been sentenced to death since her case, which took place in Nashville, Tennessee.
