MADISON, Miss. (WLBT) – The city of Madison is moving forward with a draft plan to overhaul its water system over the next 10 years, a project city leaders say could cost as much as $17.5 million but will not raise residents’ water bills.
Madison’s water system is working fine right now, according to Pete Vozzo, the city’s senior director of operations, but future growth on the west side of the city means the system will need more capacity in the years ahead. A draft engineering report shows the west side’s population has surged nearly 150% over the last 15 years, far outpacing growth on the east side of the city.
“Every 10 or 15 years we do this report,” Vozzo said. “It looks at our organic growth and our forecast annexation growth, and it forecasts the population, the businesses and the water demand that will be there.”…
